Believed to be first made millenia ago by nomadic tribes living in the mountain fastnesses of west and central Asia, the carpet weaving tradition has survived through the ages and developed into a highly evolved art form. In the annual of civilization , they have been the prized possessions of king and commoners , conquering heroes as well as fugitive princes. Experts believe that some form of carpets was produced as far back as 300 B.C. In 1949, the famous Pazyryk carpet was discovered at a Scythian burial site in the Altai region in southern Siberia. This carpet torn in parts is fine example of pile rug both in design a craftsmanship it is believed to have been made around 500 B.C. Research carried out recently proves that the art of wearing was developed by shepherd tribes living in Central Asia.
